Welcome to my new blog! I've read that it's a good idea for wanna-be writers to be: not only well read - but to be affiliated with writer's blogs, online groups, and to even start a blog of their own where they can be "out there."
I'm not sure how many people will even be interested in what I have to say on a weekly basis, and the idea of blogging on a daily basis is far too daunting! But I imagine it will do me some good to get used to writing my thoughts (at least some of them) in a place where others can view them at will, and hopefully, give me some feedback.
As far back as I can remember (some days are better than others) I have always wanted to be a writer. One of my favorite books as a young girl was Little Women, and the character I identified with the most was Jo, of course. I've written some poetry, a few short stories and began many novels through the years. But it wasn't until I began my latest endeavor that I finally felt the push to really go for it. The push came in the form of a dream, and it was so vivid and realistic, that I jumped out of bed and wrote it down at 2:30 a.m. The next day I started writing, and by the end of the week had 3 chapters done. It has been fun and exciting to see where my characters will take me each day!
And now, my book is almost finished! (The tentative title is Ravenswynd) I have a wonderful editor who is currently working on chapter 36. (two more to go!) So, I am getting geared up to begin the process of writing a synopsis, a query letter, and locating an agent. I have been reading all that I can get my hands on regarding this process, and from what I hear, it can be grueling. And in the mean time, I plan to continue working on the sequel to Ravenswynd.
In between bouts of writing the sequel, I am also in the midst of writing a time-travel book. This idea has been brewing in my mind for many years, and so far I am having great fun with it.
Not everyone gets the chance to do what they've always wanted to do, and I am very grateful that I have been able to take this time to do just that. Whether or not I ever get published is beside the point, although obviously, that would be a plus, and as time goes by I hope to share some of my writing on this blog.

Would suggest you list near the heading what genre you concentrate on - chick lit, thrillers, history, romance, etc. Best of luck and thanks for following my Wredheaded Writer blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite fond of writers, as i find a creative passion within spending hours and hours in front of draft after draft. I think it would be good for you if you talked to other authors, ones who could offer advice about the process. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Sharon. Looks like you're off to a great start with the blog AND the book. Your title, Ravenswynd, suggests historical romance or possibly fantasy. (Lovely sound, by the way) What is your genre? Dixon suggested putting it near the top of the blog. I think that's a good idea.

My story is about the life of Elizabeth Rose: college student, twin sister of Melinda, best friend of Fiona- and what happens to them when they go to a "party" and find out the local legends in their town are much more than just stories...vampires really do exist!
